Retail Coordinator – Gift Shop
The Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences, Inc. (FAES), is an entrepreneurial non-profit organization, located at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, which conducts programs and activities to promote the productivity and attractiveness of professional life on the NIH campuses. FAES programs complement the work of NIH in accomplishing its mission of research and training in the biomedical sciences and FAES seeks to continue to create and sustain cutting-edge programming in all operational areas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
Retail Operations
· Provides excellent customer service to all FAES retail patrons based on department standards with the goal of closing sales.
· Ensures all store opening and closing procedures are accurately completed daily.
· Performs daily register transactions accurately while ensuring an efficient and pleasant customer experience by communicating to customers policies regarding payments, coupon acceptance and other discounts, returns and exchanges, and other security and loss prevention procedures.
· Develops various orders for supplies, health and beauty items, and snacks, etc. using sales reports for processing by Senior Coordinators.
· At the direction of Senior Coordinators and Program Supervisor, prepares incoming merchandise for receiving and immediately reports any quality or quantity issues.
· At the direction of Senior Coordinators and Program Supervisor, processes inventory transfers, discounts, and adjustments.
· Assist the Senior Coordinators and Program Supervisor in processing and preparing merchandise for the sales floor.
· Assist the Program Supervisor with invoice submission preparation and processing.
· Immediately communicates any store maintenance and systems issues to Senior Coordinators and Program Manager.
· Assists with training fellow team members at the request of Senior Coordinators and Program Supervisor.
Merchandising
· Maintains store merchandising and cleanliness standards throughout the day and especially after store closing.
· Monitors merchandise sell-through and replenishment needs through floor inspections and sales reports and communicates them to Senior Coordinators and Program Supervisor.
· Suggests changes to Senior Merchandising Coordinator and Program Supervisor about store appearance, layout, and organization based on customer movement and feedback as well as sales.
· Maintains well-organized and clean backstock areas.
· Assist in the creation of store signage at the request of the senior coordinators and Program Supervisor.
Qualifications:
· High school degree or equivalent is required.
· Minimum 2 years of retail sales and register experience.
· Able to work within teams and create partnerships.
· Demonstrates outstanding customer-service skills.
· Excellent attention to the small details.
· Excellent logistical and organizational skills.
· Able to manage multiple tasks at once and prioritize them.
· Outstanding communicator with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills, including proficiency in the English language.
· Able to quickly learn computer technology and applications.
· Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, and Outlook or similar applications preferred. Proficiency in Counterpoint is preferred.
· Must be willing to work evenings, as needed.
· Must be able to pass an NIH background check to be employed at FAES.
Typical Work Schedule:
Typical work schedule is 8:00am to 4:30pm. This is an on-site and in person role. The Retail Coordinator will report to the FAES Bookstore and/or Gift Shops located in Building 10 on the NIH Bethesda Campus. No telework is permitted.
Physical Requirements:
This is an active position in a retail setting and uses standard office equipment as well as a retail point of sale equipment. This position must frequently lift and carry boxes weighing up to 20 pounds and requires at least 75% of each shift to be moving items and working with customers on the retail floor and moving between retail stores.
